Some more from Memorial Weekend

It was very buggy on Saturday!

Sulphurs,
Grey Fox,
 Stew's Brown Trout,
more Sulphurs in riverside vegetation.  Can you say blanket hatch?
And finally a fistful of Sulphurs.
Very buggy indeed, I mean indubitably.

Remember...

As the flowers rest on the decorated graves and the sunlight shines on the beautiful sailboats, Uncle Sam whispers in my ear about how we should care for the soldiers and remember the ones that have died. Swimming pools open, BBQs fry. Today is the day to think of what they have done for us. There are blurs of red, white and blue marching down the street and flags are lowered at half-mast. But we should always remember and never forget what set us free, from this very day on.

Upper Delaware Memorial Day Weekend Festivities

One detachment of the Minions' riverine assault vehicles.
A sampling of the thusly assaulted fish.
The ruffled surface of the water was caused by sustained 20 to 30 mph winds during which sloppy casts could be accomplished but dead drifts were severely hampered.

During a break in the wind along the East Branch, Bear fooled this piggy of a brown with a deftly presented Green Drake emerger.
Thanks for visiting gang, and for reminding me that, "I'm on vacation dammit!"

RECENT EXCURSIONS ON FISHING CREEK

Bla bla bla dry fly
bla bla bla close to home
 bla bla bla after work
 bla bla bla 20 inchers
unfortunately the busty virgins yielding pitchers of beer were not willing to pose for a photo

Penns Creek

Once upon a time a few minions went to Penns Creek,

and they caught fish and stocked up on green drakes with out running into a horse with a duck's head.

Stop the Pebble Mine NOW...

and maybe win a trip to Alaska's Crystal Creek Lodge.

Click on the link, it's really easy, to go to the Take Action page at Trout Unlimited.

The letter is pre-written and takes about two minutes to personalize.
Bristol Bay deserves 5 minutes of your time now so that it can give you a week later.

Oh, and if you win, please take me!

The Still Pool was very productive last night.

We had a tremendous flurry of caddis, sulphurs and March Brown spinners just before dark.
Every fish in the vicinity was up grazing on the surface.
Each fish was apparently making their own assessment of the proceedings as they seemed to each be feeding on different insects.
I discovered at dark that I was fishing without a fly, likely lost in a previous encounter, and yielded the few remaining risers to Stew who promptly hooked up with a PIG!
This brown had two well healed, parallel and blueish scars, seen above just above Stew's index and middle fingers. We imagined that they had been caused by a run-in with the talons of one of the hawks that frequent the area.

FYI for Curly, Stew walked home from there.

Memorial Day Weekend

The Minions' 2013 Memorial Day festivities will again be held at Chateau Lewis along the West Branch of the Delaware River in Deposit, NY.  Significant others are as always, welcome.

Coach and his child bride will be on site beginning Thursday evening the 23rd through Tuesday morning the 28th.  Minions are welcome to visit and celebrate at any time during our stay.

Sleeping quarters and food selections can be debated in the comments for this post.

We look forward to seeing all of you!

Main Stem Float 05/10/13

Took the truck and trailer in for the annual inspection on Friday morning. All is good for another year.
There was a short wait following launch.

Fish soon followed.
Bear's,
and mine.
There seemed to be a little traffic, both downstream...
 and upstream.
Rowing through this slalom course proved to be the opposite of relaxing.
We didn't get invited to join the New York Anglers' Club, we didn't get job offers to guide in Alaska, we didn't get them all with Hendricksons nor did the other bear steal the chocolate chip cookies out of our boat.
All in all a beautiful and fishy Friday.
